Google Sites not cutting it! PDF Print E-mail

About every time this year I take a look at my online world of hosted apps, plug-ins, domains, etc. I do this probably because its cold and wet outside and my annual renewal fee comes due.

This year I wanted to see how far Google Apps has progressed with integrating the basic content pieces needed to form a complete personal or professional website.

They have not come far. They provide their basic apps integration of docs, and spreadsheets, but no integration of Blogger. And the Picasa integration is very poor.

It seems that Google is focusing on search of course and some new social networking features such as Buzz. But the simple ability to create a website using their Google Sites app is still very poor. One would think that they would have created Plugins that allow for the integration of all or at least most of their standalone applications. NO! Now, I am sure if I was a good java or VB coder I could accomplish what I need. I am not, and have not desire to become a coder.

My conclusion at this point is that Google Apps are good for email, docs, and spreadsheets. Other than that they remain to be very limited at best. I will have to just pay my renewal fee with Media Temple and continue to use Joomla and Wordpress for my online needs.

Its common to use time for myself to review whats ahead. So I quickly divide "ahead" into categories. Work, finance, travel, home, second home, etc.

Work goes to the bottom today. I think finance will be number one. OMG. But it is always important. The other categories can't be dealt with until the money thing is taken care of. Actually the money is easy, cause their never is enough of it.

Travel will be close to home this year. Why? The media tells us we can't afford to travel because of the recession. Good enough! This means trips to the coast, mountains, and Vegas baby.

Oh yes, and then comes the house. Thinking that I need another tenant in the Roseburg home. At least till the market improves. So, immediate goal is to get a tenant.

Last is work. The category that never really leaves my mind. Laserfiche install next week on the coast at Elk Valley Rancheria. My first Laserfiche placement. As always relying on our ProIt team.
